Airport Grant

The Wood County airport is getting $.5 million from the federal government, to help officials search for a second commercial airline.

For years, U.S. Air Express has been the only commercial airline serving the area. The money was secured by U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller from federal transportation funds.

The airport has sought out interest from other airlines in providing passenger service.

"Last year, we had a letter from Delta and one from Northwest. We will contact Northwest, but Delta assured us of talking with us and working with us," says Carolyn Strock.

Strock cautions that the money is just a small amount of what might be needed to attract other carriers.
