It was a big concern to many; Belpre's mayor believes a lower speed limit on Route 50 has cut down on accidents since the first of the year.
The speed limit was reduced from 55 to 50 miles an hour because of a number of serious accidents, especially at the intersection of 50 and Braun Road, and sometime next year, that intersection might also be the location of a new traffic signal.
"We expect the engineering to be done by December, and construction to begin in April. That's what we're planning at this time," says Mayor McAfee.
The only serious accident on Route 50 in Belpre, ironically, was a fatal accident earlier this year at the Farson Street intersection. That's because it's the only Belpre intersection with 50 that currently has a traffic signal.
