The second out of the three phases of the River Trail Project is set to begin next week.
The trail begins at Indian Acres and ends at the Harbor, but this addition will continue down Post Street, across the levee and along the Ohio River.
It's currently two miles long, and this will add another six tenths of a mile.
The third stage is currently in the design process.
When the entire project is complete, the trail will go from one end of town to the other, stretching more than four miles.
"It's good for our carbon footprint, good for our physical health in being a well community and a very cost effective way to get around town," Mayor Michael Mullen said.
Mayor Mullen says the project is completely funded by grants, and won't dip into tax-payers pockets.
