The recently chilly temperatures are a sign winter is approaching and it means schools could be closing for inclement weather.
Wood County schools missed ten days of classes last winter, including an entire week following the Valentine's Day weekend storm last February.
The school system, like others in our area, has specific guidelines it follows in deciding whether to call off classes.
"Our director of transportation, along with a couple of our assistant directors of transportation, are out driving the highways and they make a decision, essentially, is it safe to send out the school buses," says Superintendent of Schools Bill Niday. "If it's not, we'll call school off."
WTAP will announce school closings, once we receive them during our newscasts and during daybreak each morning. We will also post them on this website.
In the meantime, we ask that you please not call the station to ask whether schools have been closed.
