Good Growing Season Helps Food Pantries

Tough times can be especially tough for organizations that rely on donations, but with help from a good growing season, food banks and pantries have enough food to help feed the community.

Officials with the Community Food Pantry of Marietta say they receive fresh vegetables from community gardens and farmers' markets almost on a daily basis.

And those who receive this extra help, say it will benefit them for months to come.

"It's really helpful at the end of Summer and beginning of Fall when you can can all the fresh produce the farmers bring in. That's really nice," Jacquie Crockett said.

The pantry director says those who once donated to national and international organizations, are now keeping their money closer to home, which is another big help to the pantry.
