Marietta College just hit a major milestone, and is celebrating its 175th anniversary.
The celebration kicked off Thursday afternoon on campus, with a flag raising ceremony.
The college was given a plaque from the Chamber of Commerce, as well as a letter of proclamation by Marietta Mayor Michael Mullen; thanking the school for its 175 years of service in the community.
"It's almost like the Olympics and the lighting of the torch. This is our way of saying, 'Hey folks, it begins today.' We have the banners up on campus, and the raising of the 175 flag that we'll put up today," Tom Perry, director of college relations, said.
Perry says Marietta College plans on celebrating its 175th anniversary throughout the entire year.
