Medical Malpractice Rally

Hundreds of Parkersburg-area doctors plan to close up shop for a while Wednesday to urge state lawmakers to pass medical liability reform.

The doctors will tie black and white ribbons to their white coats and gather at Parkersburg's Bicentennial Park and Wood County Courthouse.

The rally was organized by the Academy of Medicine of Parkersburg, which has asked Gov. Wise to attend.

Doctors say they can't find affordable malpractice insurance, and many aren't happy with the state-run insurance program created last year.

Many of the doctors attending the rally support some of the reforms adopted by other states. Those measures include the elimination of joint liability and a mechanism to screen out baseless lawsuits.

The rally is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
