The I-77 Visitors Center, in development nearly four years, will open later this month at the Williamstown exit.
Gov. Bob Wise helped break ground for the new complex in the fall of 2002.
Local tourism officials tell us that, besides being closer to the West Virginia-Ohio border, it's an improvement over the current visitor center at Mineral Wells.
Steve Nicely, President, Wood County Visitors and Convention Bureau said, “we hope people will get interested by picking up a brocheure or seeing something on the video screen. Then they will come to the welcome center staff person to get further details and directions. (The Welcome Center staff person's) role's going to change.”
Nicely says the Mineral Wells Visitors Center will remain in operation, as the rest stop.
