A newly announced candidate for the State Supreme Court says the current court is trying to legislate rather than interpret laws.
James Rowe, a democrat, is a circuit court judge from southern West Virginia. He previously served in the state legislature.
Rowe claims the Supreme Court is going too far beyond its duty to be fair and impartial in its rulings.
"They have to be mindful that their decisions make common sense," says Rowe, "and, most importantly, they have to exercise their own self-discipline and not substitute their judgment for the policy enacted by the legislators."
Rowe is running against current Justice Larry Starcher in the May democratic primary.
