The PTA at Mineral Wells Elementary used the school's open house Monday night to showcase some of its newest projects.
First-grader Austin Small raised more than $900 last year, and had the honor of cutting the ribbon to show off the playground's new rubber mulch.
The school also received a $5,000 grant from Lowe's that went towards the project.
PTA officers say the new rubber mulch is safer and more cost effective in the long run.
"We will not have to add to this mulch every year as we will the wood mulch. It will not pack down like the wood mulch will," Amy Botos, PTA vice president, said.
Some of the other projects the PTA has funded include a new picnic shelter and continuous updates to the school's reading room.
