FEMA Flood Assistance Under Way

The disaster declaration was approved last week, and local federal disaster assistance offices opened Monday.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has begun taking assistance requests from people impacted by last month's floods.

The agency says just because you've received help from other agencies, it doesn't mean you can't get help from the government.

"Even if you just had minor damage, or if your neighbor had more damage than you did, don't hesitate to call," says FEMA spokesman Sam Ventura. "The money will be there."

The recovery center in Devola will be open through Saturday, but people in Morgan and Washington Counties who have damaged homes or businesses should call 1-800-621-3362 to apply for assistance before visiting a recovery center.

Federal officials say the U.S. Small Business Administration also will be available at the centers to assist victims with low-interest business loan applications.
