You may think they're just for breakfast, but every year a local organization serves pancakes for lunch and dinner, too, and this year marks a milestone for the Marietta Kiwanis Club Pancake Days. It's the event's 50th anniversary.
Thousands came to the two-day event at the first congregational church for pancakes, sausage, coffee and orange juice, and it's the organization's biggest fundraiser, pulling in more than $10,000 every year.
"We did a lot of pre-calling efforts to businesses," says chairwoman Sandy DeLong, "and we've sold a lot of tickets in advance, which I think really helps bring people in. The silent auction really helps out, bringing in more money. This is the largest silent auction we've ever had."
Prizes ranging from Ohio State and Ohio University sports items to gift certificates were given away.
The Kiwanis Club supports educational and civic activities in Marietta and Washington County.
