It was another weekend for robberies involving what are called "lottery cafes".
The latest happened Sunday night on Gihon Road, at the Double Diamond Express. The Wood County Sheriff's Department says the suspect was a masked man, 5’10” inches tall, wearing camouflage pants.
He walked into the business around 10:30 and demanded money from an employee.
"It probably would be wise for the employees of these establishments to keep an eye on who is in their establishments from time to time," suggests Bob Newell, Parkersburg Police Chief, whose department has investigated some of the robberies. "It's very likely that whoever commits these has been in there before."
Chief Newell's department, meanwhile, is investigating an armed robbery, which happened early Saturday morning at the City Perk Cafe on Pike Street. That's the fourth such incident for the city perk chain since December.
The company's president says it is installing new security systems, including infrared technology and off-site computers.
