Local law enforcement agencies are banding together to fight crime against the elderly.
Sheriffs of Jackson, Wood and Washington counties, along with the West Virginia State Police and police chiefs of Parkersburg, Vienna and Williamstown, met Tuesday afternoon to discuss what they call an increasing problem.
These officials say they constantly work to catch scam artists who prey on the elderly; however, they say now they're taking measures to prevent the crimes.
"We're gonna urge loved ones to keep an eye on their elderly family members' bank accounts, talk to them and encourage them if there is some sort of scam attempted on them that they notify law enforcement as soon as possible," Jackson County Sheriff Michael Bright said.
Officials say they will do everything possible to bring justice to those who do commit crimes against the elderly.
