Marietta Receives Good Health Award

Staying fit is something many strive for, and it may be a little easier when you live in a community that encourages it.

Marietta is receiving the Healthy Ohio Community Gold Award; presented by the office of Healthy Ohio.

The award comes after a nomination from the Washington County Health Department for the many physical activities and healthy options available in the community.

"This day and age when we see the epidemic of diabetes; it really is time for all of us to stand up, take charge and own this problem and do things about it," Marietta Mayor Michael Mullen said.

Some of the many efforts mentioned include the River Trail, the Rivercities Farmers Market and school health and wellness programs.
