Officials in Washington County have worked hard to save the county money and energy, and their efforts aren't going unnoticed.
The Washington County Courthouse is the second courthouse in Ohio to receive an energy star award by the government.
County commissioners worked with Perfection Group Inc. to make the building more energy efficient.
Steven Weber, a Washington County commissioner, says upgrades like lighting conversions, window replacements and more contributed to the county's goal of saving energy and money.
"This is what it's all about, trying to go green and save money and use energy efficiently without problems with the environment and things like that," Weber said.
To be energy star rated, a building must be more energy efficient than 75 percent of comparable facilities in the region.
