Students and staff at Worthington Elementary had the rare opportunity to wear a hat to school Wednesday, but there was a small price to pay for this privilege.
By donating one dollar towards the "Bills for Brian" fund, students and faculty could wear a hat all day long.
The donations are to help with medical expenses for 10-year-old Brian Smith who was diagnosed with a brain tumor right before the start of the school year.
"We are a team, and this group and this school, the parents, the students, the faculty are so close, and when they find someone in need they really come together. They pull it together and try to help those in need," Lori Richards, Brian's third grade teacher, said.
Principal Joseph Oliverio says they raised $220 with hat day, which brings the total fund to about $1,150.
