Christopher Miller is found guilty of negligent homicide in a fatal accident last year involving a car and an ATV, but Miller testified Thursday that he wasn't responsible for the crash that killed passenger Jeffrey Huffman.
But while Miller denied on the stand he was racing David Brannan's ATV, jurors heard a different story in a statement made to investigators the day after the crash.
"He thought my bike was quick and I was trying to get off the road," Miller told Deputy Brett Pickens. "I was just trying to show him that his vehicle wasn't going to be faster than my car was."
Brannan, who pleaded guilty to negligent homicide on Monday, testified earlier this week in Miller's trial. The jury returned its verdict after an hour of deliberations late Thursday afternoon.
Miller is scheduled to be sentenced June 23.
