(Press Release) The Preston County Sheriff’s Department responded to complaints of animal cruelty on Friday near Hardesty, WV and subsequently seized over 70 animals and arrested 4 residents of the property for animal neglect. With the help of Preston County Animal shelter employees and volunteers and the Humane Society of the United States, 29 dogs, 14 cats, 20 chickens, 5 Guinea pigs, 2 hogs, and 1 goat were removed from the property due to severe neglect. Many of the animals were found without food and water and after veterinary examination most animals were found to have parasites, feces on their fur and skin, overgrown toenails or hooves, and a general lack of health care. The dogs and cats are being cared for at the Preston County Animal Shelter and will be available for adoption at an appropriate time, considering their health and veterinary needs. Donations for the care of the seized animals can be made to Cheat Lake Animal Hospital – Preston Co Animal Shelter fund (304.594.1124). Supplies can also be donated to the shelter at 278 Poor Farm Rd, Kingwood, WV (304.329.3461).
