A major connector between US Route 50 and the Hockingport area is once again open to traffic.
The newly-built Ohio Route 124...formerly known as Athens County Road 62, officially opened to drivers Monday morning.
124, along with state route 144, were closed back in January, 2005, when flooding complications resulted in major roadslips on both highways.
"What happened in 2005, is that a barge got lodged in a dam, which made water drain out of the dam, and eroded the banks," says David Rose, Spokesman for District 10 of the Ohio Department of Transportation. "So we relocated State Route 124 away from the river."
The new road also means new traffic patterns...including the closing of the intersection of US 50 and Athens County Road 61.
