Separated by Three

It will be at least Monday's vote canvass before we have a good idea who Wood County's next sheriff will be.

Current Sheriff Steve Greiner is the "unofficial" winner of Tuesday's Republican primary, but by only three votes more than former Sheriff Ken Merritt.

If the three-vote margin holds, the unelected could ask for a recount.

Sheriff Greiner has had some experience with close elections. He lost a race for county assessor to Steve Grimm by a small margin in 1996, but decided not to seek a recount.

No one filed to oppose the Republican winner in Tuesday's primary.
