This hasn't happened in nearly 20 years: a sitting president exits Air Force One at the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport.
But because of security, only a select few could see President Bush in person. Even fewer could greet him as he exited the plane. They included Kim and Sandy Marshall.
Kim Marshall is president of the Wood County Volunteer Firefighters Association.
“I contacted (Congresswoman) Shelley Moore Capito's office to see if we could meet with the president. I had hoped to present to him an award from the Firefighters Association, but that wasn't possible because of security concerns,” says Kim Marshall.
Sandy Marshall adds, “It's something I'll never forget, and I'm proud of him and I'm proud of the job our firefighters do every day.”
Air Force One actually arrived ahead of schedule and departed just a few minutes behind schedule. That's an advantage a lot of travelers would like to have.
