After two full days of counting challenged or provisional ballots, a voter canvass of last week's primary has confirmed Ken Merritt won the seat for Wood County Sheriff by 10 votes.
A week ago Sheriff Steve Griener was the unofficial winner of the Republican primary three votes ahead of Merritt. Tuesday, Sheriff Griener tells WTAP's Denise Alex that more than likely he will not ask for a recount because it's just a burden on taxpayers.
The Wood County Commission, which also oversees the canvass, will re-convene Wednesday. It has to confirm a winner, and then 48 hours later it must certify the votes from the primary.
