The opening of a seven-and-a-half million dollar replacement for the current Washington County Jail is just weeks away, and a look inside the new complex tops our news.
The old jail in the Washington County Courthouse has been in operation since 1968, but while it's physically in good shape, it's come close to being overcrowded in recent years.
The new facility, located off Gilman Avenue, will house twice as many inmates, plus education and recreation areas. It's been under construction since late 2002.
Jack Brum says, “We'll be conducting an open house and public tours on Saturday, May 29th. This facility will be open for public tours form 9 a.m. to noon on May 29th.”
We'll have more on both the new and old jails Wednesday on our news at five, six and eleven.
