The Parkersburg Area Humane Society Wednesday honored some special youngsters. They took part this winter in a special poster contest designed to make people aware of pet control and adoption.
It was held in all of the Wood County Elementary and Junior High Schools for kids up to the age of 13.
"We feel that encourages them to be compassionate later in life; not only towards animals but people as well," says Debbie Viduchich of the Parkersburg Humane Society. "We had a great response, it was very touching."
More than 800 youngsters throughout the county took part in the contest.
One youngster honored donated $80 of his own money for the Humane Society, and while just a few received commendations, the Humane Society believes they're all winners.
