"North and South" for Kids

One of the bloodiest wars in American history was the war between the states.

Friday, students at Mineral Wells Elementary School had a chance to experience the Civil War era.

About 100 students took part in the all-day re-enactment. It's part of a program conducted each spring by fourth graders taking West Virginia history classes.

"The thing they really look forward to is the charge," says instructor Michael Church. "We do it without the horses, of course, but they really enjoy it."

The youngsters got instruction in the history of the 1860's, as well as the uniforms, weapons and battles.
