Even during tough economic times, folks in the Mid-Ohio Valley are still digging deep into their pockets to help those in need.
The fund-raising season just wrapped up for the United Way Alliance of the Mid-Ohio Valley.
This year's goal was to raise $700,000, but it exceeded that goal by more than $30,000.
Officials say they're pleasantly surprised with the results, and that it wouldn't be possible without the dozens of volunteers.
"Their work in the community; passing out the packets to all the local businesses, and just what they do to help us get the word out and get people involved. We couldn't do it without them. We thank them very much," Jason Lewis, chair of the United Way Alliance board, said.
A fund-raising goal hasn't yet been set for next year, but officials say if the money continues to pick up, they may increase it.
The United Way helps fund 39 local agencies and programs.
