UPDATE 4/17/2010 6:46 p.m.
Due to some trees that were knocked down onto some phone lines Friday night, dialing 911 for emergencies in Ritchie County did not work Saturday morning and afternoon but service to the 911 center was restored by Saturday evening.
A Verizon spokesman said trees fell on fiberoptic lines in Dallison, Wood County Friday night.
This has not caused problems for the Wood County 911 Center but it did cause technical problems for the Ritchie County 911 Center.
Emergency calls to 911 in Ritchie County were not working Saturday morning but service was restored around 5 p.m.
Earlier emergency calls were directed to other landlines but now dialing 9-1-1 is working again.
According to dispatchers, long distance phone service has been restored too but some Verizon cell phone service continues to be out.
A Verizon spokesperson said they have been working on the problem and folks in Ritchie County can call and be called from outside of their local calling area.
The Ritchie County 911 call center is experiencing technical difficulties and is unable to answer 911 calls. Below is a list of numbers city residents should call in case of an emergency.
