A local Eagle Scout Troop is honoring a couple of veterans, who were some of the first to step foot into the area.
Troop 207, along with the Marietta chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, is placing new headstones at two grave sites.
One will commemorate the burial site of Revolutionary War hero, General James Mitchell Varnum.
The other, along with an older, decaying monument, will mark where Fort Harmar soldier, Englehard Hopper is laid to rest.
"It shows the importance and the value of the settlers that were here and sort of emphasizes the history of Marietta," an eagle scout said.
The new markers will be in place in time for the SAR's reenactment of General Varnum's funeral procession, which takes place July 2nd.
