These days firefighters do much more than battle blazes. They're able to respond in nearly all emergency situations.
The Marietta Fire Department is learning another life-saving skill.
This week, firefighters are participating in simulations where they must rescue victims stuck inside buildings, but in order to do that safely, they must first build pieces to secure the structure.
The procedure uses basic carpentry skills, and firefighters say it's all about teamwork.
"Everybody's taught the same way, and if we're all taught the same way we can easily fill in in other areas to help out, and everybody knows what they're doing," Chris Hall, a Marietta Firefighter, said.
Firefighters say the same principles can be used for parking garages and other concrete structures that could collapse.
