South Charleston, W.Va. (AP) -- The state Division of Natural Resources has announced the winners of the 2009 West Virginia Big Buck contest for antlered deer.
The DNR says 80 hunters qualified for the contest in gun, bow and crossbow categories.
In the typical gun category, Kenneth Carpenter of Streetsboro, Ohio, bagged a 12-point buck killed in Kanawha County.
The winners in the typical and nontypical bow categories, respectively, are Howard Powell III of Parkersburg, who killed a 23-point buck in Wood County, and Jason Kerns of Shepherdsville, Ky., who killed a 14-point buck in Logan County.
The crossbow category winner was Bobby Grose of Rock. He killed a nine-point buck in Mercer County.
