It's easy to spot a police car with those red and blue lights on top, but Parkersburg Police now have another way of getting around.
Officers find they can interact more with the public by riding bicycles, rather than always driving a cruiser.
But before hopping on, they must first be certified through a 40 hour course.
Officers say in many ways these bikes can be more beneficial than cars.
"We should obey all traffic laws like a vehicle, but if it's an emergency situation we don't have to. We can go through yards, over curbs, on sidewalks, places that the cruisers can't get," Captain Keith Roberts said.
The department currently has five bikes, but Captain Roberts hopes to add many more to that in the future.
