Educators Use Summer Break to Keep Up with Technology

The school year has wrapped up for many educators in the area, but the job doesn't stop when the last bell rings.

Teachers have always used their summer vacations to attend workshops and brush up on their skills, but today's technology has them stepping it up a notch.

Schools have training sessions scheduled throughout the summer; many to help teachers stay up-to-date with the latest technology.

"Things change every day, and for teachers to be able to keep up with that, that's why they have so many (sessions)," Randi Tranquill, a technology integration specialist at Van Devender Middle School, said.

Tranquill says most teachers average 100 extra hours of training during the summer.
