Valley students are filling their backpacks because the school year gets under way this week.
Wood County schools don't begin until Thursday, but classes began Monday in Belpre City schools.
There are some new administrators, including new Supt. Harry Fleming. Fleming spoke about his plans for the coming year.
"I'll be spending a lot of time in the next few weeks just getting to know people, says Fleming, a former long-time administrator and teacher in Marietta City Schools. "What I'm looking for, of course, is for us to be the very best we can be, and I think Belpre has an excellent reputation, and there are a lot of very dedicated people here."
Fleming tells us the first day of classes went off without a hitch.
While final figures won't be available until later this fall, Belpre is seeing enrollment increases in its middle school and some of its elementary buildings.
