UPDATE: Athens Murder Suspect Arrested

Detectives with the Athens County Sheriff's Office, with the assistance of the Columbus Police Department, have arrested Matthew Wolfe of Athens.

Sheriff's office officials believe Oxley and another individual went to a Chauncey, Ohio residence to purchase drugs, a fight erupted and Wolfe shot Oxley.

They say 41-year old Oxley died on the way to Grant Hospital in Columbus.

The Athens County Sheriff Office has released the name of a suspect wanted in connection with Wednesday's shooting death of 41-year old Craig Oxley.

Matthew E. Wolfe, whose last known address is 10475 Hooper Ridge Road in Athens, is charged with first-degree murder. He was last seen driving a 2000 copper-colored Pontiac Grand Am, with Ohio license plate number ELZ3575.

Authorities say Oxley was shot in his car at 22 Main Street in Chauncey, Ohio. Oxley's car later veered off Ohio State Route 13 and struck a telephone pole. Oxley died en route to Grant Hospital in Columbus.

Detectives say they believe Oxley and another individual went to the residence at 22 Main Street to purchase drugs when Wolfe shot Oxley in his car.

The Athens County Sheriff's Office has announced it will hold a news conference at 10:00AM, Thursday.

At the conference, the sheriff's office will release the name of the shooting suspect accused of killing Craig Oxley early Wednesday afternoon.

Officials with the Athens County Sheriff's Office say Craig Oxley died around 4:30PM, Wednesday, at a Columbus hospital.

Deputies say a little after 2:00PM, Wednesday, witnesses heard gun shots and then watched the vehicle Craig Oxley was driving on State Route 13 veer off the right side of the road and hit a telephone pole.

Witnesses also say they saw someone run from Oxley's vehicle.

The 41-year old was taken to O'Bleness Hospital and then to a hospital in Columbus, where he later died.

Deputies do have a person of interest and are looking for that individual.

The investigation is ongoing.
