Four years after an abandoned building caught fire in New Matamoras, the community is celebrating turning a bad situation into something good.
The town will be dedicating Park Central this weekend.
The park was built in place of where the building burned, right next to the post office.
Members of the community say it's the place where many gather and interact with one another, and now they can do so in comfort.
"You can stop and be ornery, play a game of checkers no matter how young or old you are. Just enjoy the scenery, watch the traffic go by," Greg Knowlton, a New Matamoras resident, said.
The park dedication is set for Saturday, July 31 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be live entertainment throughout the day.
