A car drives straight into the Muskingum River Sunday morning. It happened at Indian Acres Park in Marietta.
Marietta Fire Department Captain Jack Hansis says witnesses saw a car drive right into the river.
Two dive team members were able to save the man by getting him out of the car and bringing him to land. They performed CPR before he was taken to Marietta Memorial Hospital. Hansis says the man is responsive but his condition isn't known at this time.
He says water rescues are all about timing and the fire department responded just in time. "From the beginning call til we recovered him was eight minutes. So he had a very good chance with the water being slightly cold to maximize his chance for survival," says Fire Captain Hansis.
The driver's name and age aren't being released right now. No word on why he ran into the river. The crash is still under investigation.
