A New Home For the Purple Heart Memorial

A memorial honoring the Purple Heart recipients in the Mid-Ohio Valley is moved to a better location.

Just right outside the Marietta Armory, Wynn Dent Construction completed a concrete slab so the memorial can rest right next to the Veterans Walk.

Marietta Mayor Joe Matthews and Purple Heart recipients were present Thursday morning.

Purple Heart recipient Gene Strahler says this memorial has great meaning to those who survived but most importantly those who have fallen.

"This memorial is for those who didn't come home. Us recipients of the Purple Heart, we are here, we are the survivors. We have this to honor those who didn't survive," Strahler says.

Members of the Purple Heart organization in the Mid-Ohio Valley want to encourage anyone who has received a Purple Heart to join. Membership is free.
