Doors opened to the Grand Central Mall at noon to begin the Magical Day of Giving event.

Mall patrons donated $5 at the door for a ticket and bracelet to be eligible for discounts at the majority of stores in the mall. All proceeds from the event go to benefit local charities.

Mall management says this is their 14th year hosting the event and have raised between $20,000 and $30,000 each year.

Tickets are entered in to a raffle to win a $2,500 shopping spree. This is one way the mall gives back to the community during the holiday season.

"We're very, very appreciative of our community. They're one of the reasons that we have been a staple in the Mid Ohio Valley since 1972," says marketing director Katrina Stephens.

"Without their support and without their patronage we obviously would not be here. So it's one of the big way that we can give back to our community. We are obviously contacted often, if not daily for donations and things like that and it's very hard for us to do that but as a group this is a very big way that our retailers can join together and help our community," says Stephens.

Mall management walked into stores and randomly chose winners for gift cards ranging from $50 to $250. They say this a fun way they get to participate and shoppers are always excited when they receive the unexpected gift.
