Accident Shuts Down Interstate 77 in Jackson County

A crash and a fire backed up both lanes of I-77 Tuesday afternoon in Jackson County.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office responded to the rollover crash on Interstate 77 near Medina Road.

A 911 dispatcher told us the car caught fire.

Sheriff Tony Boggs says a deputy was getting more information about the crash at the hospital, but all the people involved were out of the car.

A passing driver also told WTAP he saw a person in handcuffs.

Both the northbound and southbound lanes of the interstate were shut down for several hours.


Jackson County 911 says both the north and southbound lanes of Interstate 77 near the Wood-Jackson County line have been shut down by a rollover accident.

A 911 dispatcher says all of the occupants are out of the vehicle. However, the vehicle is on fire.

Callers to The News Center say traffic is backed up as far as the Mineral Wells-Rockport area of Wood County.

The accident happened at mile marker 155 near Medina Road.
