Douglas Sinnett of St. Marys ran into a telephone pole on West Virginia Route 2 after falling asleep at the wheel.

The Pleasants County Sheriff's Office responded to the call at 4:53 am.

The telephone pole broke as a result of the crash and power lines were downed in the highway.

Sinnett was treated and released at the scene, but traffic was shut down until nearly 10 a.m.

Belmont residents were out of power for about 2 hours.

The crash occurred north of Cow Creek between Pleasants Power and Cytec.

Deputy Steve McFarland says the accident is still under investigation and alcohol was not involved.

No citations have been issued.
