UPDATE 2/10/2014 6:00 PM

A murder conviction is upheld for John Anderson.

Anderson was convicted in January for the 2010 murder of Willard Wright.

The Supreme Court decided to uphold the conviction.

It's not exactly what the judge wanted, but John Anderson is sentenced as the jury directed.

Anderson was convicted in January for the 2010 murder of Willard Wright.

The jury at that time recommended he be eligible for parole after serving 15 years.

But Judge Robert Waters Monday said he hopes Anderson serves his entire sentence.

"Judge Waters gave his personal reccommendation be denied parole," said Anderson's attorney, Joe Munoz, "and that he be in jail for the rest of his life, but that's for the parole board to decide."

During the trial, Anderson's attorneys unsuccessfully argued Wright's own criminal past be included in the testimony.

The defense plans to appeal the jury's verdict.
