A new business was officially welcomed to the south side Friday.
It dresses up what's been an empty storefront with some very nice decor.
A study found that most people have been leaving Parkersburg to buy their home goods.
So the mayor reached out to Ashley Furniture to invite them to town.
They're proud to say they sell American-made products.
The store should boost the local economy as well.
"There's new jobs that weren't here before. They spent half a million dollars renovating and used all local labor contractors and so forth and that's a great thing. It helps our entire community when somebody moves in," says Parkersburg Mayor Bob Newell.
"The local contractors- they've done a great job building out this store. To be able to employ over a hundred people - that's very, very satisfying," says Bob Young, owner of the store.
Chamber of commerce members came out to celebrate the opening.
Mayor Newell says the relationship between government and businesses is important.
It's what helps the city to grow.
