At about 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, 34-year-old Franklin Green opened fire on Athens County deputies at his Fisher Road home.

The deputies were trying to serve court papers and arrest Green.

He fired a rifle at an armored car, shattering the windshield. Green went back into his house before deputies could return fire.

About 10 minutes later, authorities spoke with Green on the phone. He said, "everyone needed to go home if they wanted to see their families because they will not go home alive."

He continued firing rounds at police.

At about 3 o'clock, Sheriff Kelly had a 30 minute phone conversation with Green.

He then surrendered to deputies. No one was injured during the hour-long standoff.
