Ballot Set For May Primary

By  |

Warmer weather isn't the only thing people can look forward to this spring.

For some, it will be the first time in 18 months they've gone to the polls.

The candidates and issues for the May primary were finalized Wednesday.

The filing period in West Virginia took place last month and something to look ahead to for the first time, for the most part, in a decade, is change in the local representation in the house of delegates.

Longtime representatives Tom Azinger and John Ellem did not file for re-election.

Filing for Ohio's primary elections ended at 4:00 Wednesday afternoon.

But as far as Washington County is concerned, the only primary race involves two republicans running for the one county commission seat that's up this election year.

"We only had the three offices in Washington County: the auditor, probate and juvenile judge position, and the commissioner's race. So we haven't had much activity here in the county," says Peggy Byers, deputy director of the Washington County Board of Elections.

Statewide offices including the governor are also on the Ohio ballot this year, as are state representative's offices in the 94th and 95th districts, and the U.S. House of Representatives.
