Flames Spread to Attic in Belpre House Fire

By  |

A Belpre home catches fire Thursday night. Firefighters say it started in the kitchen and quickly spread to the attic.

Belpre Volunteer Fire Department Chief Eric Sinnett says it started just before 8:30 pm Thursday on Hill Street.

Sinnett, who lives nearby, says it was his wife who reported the fire after seeing smoke coming from a neighbor's roof.

Officials say one person was home at the time. She was able to get out.

Sinnett says the flames started in the kitchen, making their way into the attic.

He says firefighters attacked the flames from inside. They later cut into the roof, removing insulation, to make sure the fire was fully extinguished.

Firefighters say it took about 10 minutes to control.

There is an estimated $20,000 worth of damage.

The cause remains under investigation.
