Belpre High School students took over the town tonight acting as elected officials. And they are elected, in a way.

The local and state government class has yearly elections for students to act as representatives in council meetings.

Students and council members use this as a learning experience.

"There's a lot of little bits and pieces in government, that people who aren't in government don't know about," says senior Todd Packard. "We don't really appreciate what they do here because there's a lot that goes on in this building that we don't know about."

Several Belpre High School graduates are now elected members of the council.
