Eight certified teaching positions in Belpre will be gone at the end of this academic year, according to Bill Van Pelt, the President of the Belpre Education Association.
Van Pelt says the Belpre School Board voted, 4-1, in favor of eliminating 8 teaching positions in the next academic school year. The decision on whose jobs will be eliminated won't be made until April, he says.
Van Pelt says he's very concerned about the higher student to teacher ratio. He says students and teachers perform better with smaller class sizes.
Van Pelt adds that he understands tough decisions have to be made but asks the board to look at other areas for cuts, since this is the second year in row they've eliminated teaching positions.
