It happened Tuesday afternoon on 4th Street.

An old water main burst, shooting out water and causing the road to collapse.

Beverly Mayor Rex Kenyon says the water main was scheduled to be replaced this year as part of a 1.8 million dollar project.

Another water main broke last night just up the street. The force of the water did damage a front window of the white house across the street, and water pressure was so high that water traveled over the home and damaged cars parked behind the house.

The road has been reopened and that street is on a boil water advisory.
