Bids Come in for Demolition of Old Wood County Holding Center

It housed prisoners for nearly 40 years.

Now the Wood County Holding Center is a step closer to demolition.

The County Commission Monday morning opened bids for the building's demolition.

Three bids came in for that, and asbestos removal for the structure.

They will be reviewed before a contractor is chosen for the project.

The county commission looked at other uses for what, for years, was known as the Wood County Jail before prisoners were transported to the North Central Regional Jail.

It was a temporary holding center before last year, when the justice center opened.

The State of West Virginia recently characterized it as "inefficient".
